Our rafiki, Mzee Mauma, in New York, has forwarded the following news to be shared with all MusomaBlog readers. For Tanzania, the Fibre Optic network looks to be a technological achievement. With the Fibre Optic Networks being installed, the Internet and the World Wide Web (www!) will be more accessible. This will help communications and quick transfer of information.
Asante to Mzee Mauma for forwarding this information.
President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete talking via a telephone a short time following his inauguration of Optic Fibre Project at tandem with the inauguration of Serengeti District electricity for expansion of internet communication in the District and neighbouring places.

Musoma has been in the news lately at the center of some very ambitious and some controversial proposals to enhance the development of the Mara region. Musoma is strategically located on the lake shores of Lake Victoria, which is stradled by the East African countries of Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. Musoma is well located for the tourism industry from Tanzania and from neighboring Kenya. Being on the lake, it is ideally located for the water-based trading routes with Kenya and Uganda.
Now, Uganda, which is currently trying to find ways to stabilise its economy to attract more investors, sees the importance of Musoma’s location. Musoma is the link between Uganda and Tanga - the now developing sea port of Tanzania.
Allafrica.com carries a report from Uganda’s newspaper, New Vision, on how Uganda is planning to establish a new railway line linking Uganda to Tanga via Musoma and Arusha. Under the currently strong support for the East African Community (EAC), this is a proposal that may get the final go-ahead alongwith financing to fund the construction line.
