Hotel Matvilla, Musoma
Posted by adminmusoma on February 20, 2007
A brand new hotel has opened recently in Musoma.
The hotel is named Hotel Matvilla. This has been built in the Musoma Emporium (Rao Family) building on Mkendo Street. Those of us who are familiar with the Musoma Emporium building will notice that addition of an extra floor. The owner of this Hotel is said to be the MP of Musoma
The hotel has a total of 25 rooms with a mix of Single and Double rooms all with en-suite facilities, and Air Conditioning. An added advantage of this hotel is that there is an open air restaurant adjacent to it.
The approximate room rate is $15 per night, which includes breakfast.

When I first saw these pictures with the note saying that this new hotel has been built in the Musoma Emporium building, I was bit saddened and the words ‘My house is now a hotel’! sprang to my mind.
The Musoma Emporium building holds many wonderful memories since I grew up in that building.
Life moves on. We move on. Yes, god willing, if I get an opportunity to visit Musoma, I will be able to stay in my house. However there is a big difference between this hotel and the house of my childhood.
On a positive note, it is encouraging to see decent hotels being built. This will attract more visitors to the area and hopefully promote some growth.
A Thank you to Dr Manjul Vasant for sharing this news, information and pictures.

Looking at the pictures again, I notice an Auto Rickshaw in the foreground in the 1st picture. That must be an import by a businessman or business house of Indian origin!!
Must be quite a ride in the Rickshaw along the potholed roads of Musoma.

Million thanks to adminmusoma for sharing the info on Hotel Matvilla. My childhood home in Musoma. On first glance I did not recognise the building as one more floor has been added. Hotel is wonderfully furnished. Sweet memories are painful but also gives you immense pleasure.
Best wishes and thanks to Mr. MP of Musoma for keeping Musoma Emporium bldg. alive.

The pictures from the side of the building does need a bit of memory work to imagine and relate this building with the old ‘original’ Musoma Emporium building.
Mzee Moses of Hotel Matvilla has sent in more pictures to share with Musomians. These should be posted on MusomaBlog shortly.
