A brand new hotel has opened recently in Musoma.
The hotel is named Hotel Matvilla. This has been built in the Musoma Emporium (Rao Family) building on Mkendo Street. Those of us who are familiar with the Musoma Emporium building will notice that addition of an extra floor. The owner of this Hotel is said to be the MP of Musoma
The hotel has a total of 25 rooms with a mix of Single and Double rooms all with en-suite facilities, and Air Conditioning. An added advantage of this hotel is that there is an open air restaurant adjacent to it.
The approximate room rate is $15 per night, which includes breakfast.

Riyaz Jiwani shares the following thoughts and information on Abdul Rajan:
Abdul as we all knew had a shop near Ashwin Raja’s.
His best friend was Nizar Esmail Jamal (Mateso).
Both Nizar and himself broke the taboo in Musoma that beer drinking was unsociable. They discussed it openly and invited people to his house and every Sat. afternoon to Musoma club to enjoy a good drink. They made it fashionable and not taboo any more. This was their greatest attribute. They were pure hearted and his shop was always open for people to congregate and have a chat.
Abdul was a mining engineer at Buhemba Gold Mines before moving to Musoma and joined his brother Amir in the shop. Upon Amir’s migration to Canada, Abdul ran the shop.
He migrated to Canada 8 years ago and started enjoying his retirement. Always happy and full of jokes, he complained about the weather in Canada but also complemented the good beer and ample supply of it.
Abdul contracted lung cancer which spread to his brain and was diagnosed too late for anything to be done. Despite radiation therapy, there was really no hope. However, he was full of vitality until the day he passed away. Even the doctors complimented him on his bright outlook to life.
This is a brief of a man who was happy and one who had no enemies, but friends. He leaves behind fond memories, especially for those of us who were “jobless” and congregated at his shop, which we had fondly named “Jobless corner”.
